If you would like to talk to a present parent about the Newport School, the following parents would be more than willing to talk to you:
Lower School: Philip and Susan Hardt - 301-933-6008
Middle School: Kady Burke: markglueck@msn.com (Parent Grade 6)
Newport is a true community. My son is getting an excellent education in an environment where each student's individual needs are met and their talents supported and encouraged. (D. Friedman, Parent, Grade 3)
When I first set foot in Newport School 6 years ago I knew right away that this was the place for my son. He was entering Kindergarten, and I had never interviewed schools before - so I wasn't sure what questions to ask - , but we were both warmly welcomed and I quickly felt at home. I wanted a school that my son could grow up in, learn from others culturally and socially, form lasting friendships, and feel comfortable and encouraged to be himself. The diversity and family atmosphere is what makes Newport so special. I love the fact that my son is learning about other cultures and handicaps and is accepting people for WHO they are and not what their nationality or handicaps are.
Newports' teachers are exceptional individuals who are truly dedicated to our children individually; the administration is absolutely wonderful and really works with the kids and parents to ensure the best education; the students know each other, no matter what grade; and the parents volunteer their time for whatever event, fundraiser, meeting the school needs. I would say that Newport School is one big happy family, and I am proud to be a part of it! (V. Bailey Parent, Grade 6)
We like Newport because teachers and staff are dedicated, they have a great deal of experience and wisdom, and they work hard to make studentts the best they can be. (G Borgia, Parent, Grade 6)
The Newport School is a magical place. More than any other school, Newport, its administrators and faculty, have contributed so much to the lives of so many students and their families. Teachers actually communicate with parents on a regular basis – with successes as well as problems. At Newport, kids get the attention they need, and parents get teachers’ support to help their kids achieve.
Our three children have all received a Newport education, and it meant something different and tailor-made for each of them. Our oldest son is strong in math, and frustrated in fourth grade to have to review so much material he had learned already. His teachers took him and several other students they identified in the class as being ready to move ahead – and pushed them as fast as they could go.
Studies are not restricted to the basics. Our daughter has a flair for the dramatic. She took part in the Spring Festival each year in the Lower School and participated in writing the show in fourth grade, sampled Shakespeare and serious drama in Middle School as part of the English curriculum, and dabbled in the fine arts and music to supplement her academic studies.
The school does not stint on personalized attention. When our youngest son showed the ability to move into the advanced math group in his class, the teacher gave him supplemental assignments to help him get ready. Then she made sure he didn’t get stuck in areas where he was missing prior knowledge. (R. Payes, Trustee, Parent, Grade5)
"We have 2 children at the Newport School. We are very happy with Newport not only because of the small classes and attention that is provided to them but, the quality of education they are receiving. This school made them feel like successful individuals and we think it has brought out the best in both of them." (A. Kaiser, Parent, Grades 3 & 6)
My son came to Newport as a 7th grader. He liked the idea of small classes and a small student body. We were impressed by the depth of experience in the faculty and administration. As he went through this transition year, both of these aspects proved very valuable to his adjustment and success at school. We are very glad that we chose Newport. (S. Hyams, Parent Grade 8)
