After a career managing youth and adult education and training programs in the U.S. Department of Labor, Mary Silva decided her next career would be teaching elementary school. She received her teaching certification and taught second grade in Prince George's County before joining the Newport School this year. Her experience as a mother of 5 and grandmother of 4 adds to her qualifications.

Originally from Chicago, she graduated from DePauw University (BA) and the University of Wisconsin (MA). In addition to teaching, Mary enjoys traveling, reading, bicycling, kayaking, and spending time with her husband Larry, their family and their friends.
