Testimonials

“There are young people who need more one-on-one attention than can be provided in public schools or large private institutions. For those students, The Newport School is the solution! There is discipline but flexibility, great expectations but a commitment to meeting student where they are and creating the conditions for them to be successful. Having the core courses in the morning when my son is more focused and alert, and the electives in the afternoon when he needs movement and a creative outlet have made all the difference. Before he was struggling with every subject, now he is a solid B student. The Newport School is a place where children thrive because of a magical blend of rigor, innovation, enthusiasm and genuine affection!"

(C. Johnson, Parent, Grade 8)

I know that my time at Newport definitely helped me. The diversity, the amazing teachers, I know all of it helped to get into college.”

(J. Friedman, Class of 2003)

“There are many words to describe how I feel about Newport (all of them totally positive), but the one that sums it all up the best is gratitude…Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that all of you have done for my son and for me. I will forever be grateful to Newport.”

(P. Hughes, Past Parent)

“Our son has had a very successful first semester at Bethany College in WV studying English. He's studying English and is in Honors English. He took his freshman seminar in "Voicing the Self" and also took a course in Shakespeare. Much to his great surprise (and relief!) he took the Spanish placement test and was able to test out of his foreign language requirement. His Honors English professor asked him to apply for a position as a writing tutor in the learning center and he is one of three who will be interviewed for the position. He is currently at school for a three-week freshman semester and is taking a film class. It's interesting that he's cultivating so many of the seeds that were sewn at Newport School and that he's thriving! He was so happy to see everyone at school the other week and to "come home".

(J. Wheeler, Past Parent)
